In 2013, the Jakarta Biennale is held for the fifteenth time, presenting the theme SIASAT: Throughout October-November 2013, the Jakarta Biennale presents various contemporary works of art from Indonesian and international artists involving artistic projects, importantly, the role of the city's residents, communities, cultural institutions, as well as artist groups and activists. This book, BERKAS, is published to address the issues around the chosen theme of the Jakarta Biennale in a wider cultural scope.

This is the inaugural edition which presents five works of Indonesian contributors in various formats, namely, essays, a letter, a cartoon, and photography.
