Melampaui Citra dan Ingatan : Bunga Rampai Tulisan seni Rupa 1968 - 2017
This book is a compilation of visual arts writings from 1968 to 2017, with a total of 432 writings by Bambang Boejono collected until October 2017. From these, 101 selected writings are divided into five chapters, presented in a 576-page book. The writings are organized chronologically and framed within chapter sections as part of an essay framework. The first chapter discusses the events in visual arts over more than four decades—especially in Jakarta—starting with an appreciation of Affandi’s paintings, which marked a revolution in form and technique as part of modern painting. Readers are also presented with analysis and critiques of works by artists with distinct brushstrokes, such as Srihadi Sudarsono, Fadjar Sidik, and Nazar in the 1972 Indonesian Painting Exhibition. The second chapter examines the works of exhibitions and artists in a sequential manner, recognizing key figures in the history of visual arts, from group exhibitions and solo shows to significant milestones such as the Indonesian Fine Arts Exhibition, the Jakarta Biennale, moments that contributed to the birth of Modern Painting, the New Art Movement (GSRB), and Contemporary Art. In the following chapters, the book illustrates the landscape of visual art history, particularly in Jakarta, since Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) became the center of the visual arts in Jakarta. It traces the development from when painting and sculpture dominated to the emergence of installation art, video art, and new media art. The book also chronicles the evolution of exhibitions, which were once independently organized by artists and galleries, to the rise of curators as key figures in overseeing exhibitions.
