Since John Bandicut thwarted Earth's destruction from a comet in *Neptune Crossing* and saved Shipworld from the boojum in *Strange Attractors*, his life has been a relentless series of battles against chaos.

Barely escaping Shipworld’s grasp, Bandicut and his eclectic crew of aliens find themselves stranded on a distant ocean world, struggling to survive beneath its crushing depths. But they quickly realize they are not alone. The Neri, a race of deep-sea humanoid amphibians, are facing their own desperate plight. Under constant assault by surface-dwelling invaders, they now confront an even more terrifying threat rising from the ocean’s depths: a malevolent force known only as the Maw of the Abyss.

If Bandicut cannot unravel the mystery of the Maw, the Neri’s struggling world will perish—and he and his companions will perish with it.
