Teaching Poetry
The teaching of poetry is often split into two separate activities: reading poetry and writing poetry. This distinction is both strange and illogical, as the two practices are deeply interconnected and mutually reinforcing. This book aims to demonstrate how essential reading poetry is for writing it, and vice versa. The text will be organized into three sections. The first will offer insights based on the author's experience of reading poetry to children in Key Stages 1 and 2. The second will present case studies of children engaging with poetry, illustrating the depth of their understanding. The final section will focus on a case study of children writing their own poems.
